Geography

Teaching of Geography at Allonby Primary School

At Allonby School, we have developed our Geography curriculum based on the CUSP scheme of learning, which ensures all the skills required to meet the aims of the national curriculum are taught. It allows for a broad and deep understanding of the four areas of geography identified in the National curriculum as well as providing children with outdoor opportunities, such as fieldwork and orienteering.  It will develop contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places and understanding of the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world, along with how they bring about variation and change over time. We intend to develop children’s curiosity and develop a greater understanding of the world through contrast location studies, making comparisons around the world. Our curriculum focuses on developing children’s geographical vocabulary, map skills and geographical facts to engage them in the world around us.
